though i may not a beauty be
and grey has caught up with me
will you anyway look at me
tenderly – undyingly
will you make a bookmark out of me
and keep me snug within
the pages of every book you read
will you make a sticker out of me
and stick me on the windscreen
of your car
so that every time you ride
through busy streets
it is me you see –
will you make me
the screen saver of your computer
so that when idle it sits
your eyes will look at me –
will you frame me and keep me
on your bedside table
so that you will look at me
first thing when your eyes open
so that when you turn in to sleep
your eyes will look at me
last thing –
will you put me
on the mirror of your dresser
on the ceiling of your bedroom
on the door of your cupboard
in the middle of your dining room
alongside the bowl of fruit
will you put me everywhere
on your every wall in your every room
on your every windowpane
on every flower that blooms
in the vases strewn in your every nook
and look at me – and look at me
tenderly – undyingly
even though
i may not a beauty be
